Layers (A)

Some artists and designers create work using layers which can reveal and conceal. The layers can be transparent or opaque, this or thin, smooth or textured. Gerhard Richter has produced work by dragging layers of paint across a surface. Susie Freeman uses transparent layers of fabric to encase tiny objects. Catherine McINtyre creates the effect of layering in her photographs.

Transformation (A)

The transformation of one form into another has been a feature of many artists' and photographers' work. Wanda Wulz produced images that combined her pace with that of a cat. Rene Magritte merged objects and figures to create surreal images. MC Escher's transformations involved the use of tessellation.
